1956 Classic Chevrolet - Body Styles

Chevrolet wanted to keep its remarkable reputation for outstanding body styles going strong in 1956. Although the basic body shell, which was new in 1955, remained the same. Detailed changes were made to increase Chevrolet's already broad appeal for 1956.

Several new body types were created to fill out the 1956 line. Bel Air Sport Sedan 4 Door Hard Top, Two-Ten Sport Sedan 4 Door Hard Top, Bel Air Beauville 9 passenger 4 Door Station Wagon and a Two-Ten Beauville 9-passenger 4 Door Station Wagon were new in 1956. Back was the 1956 Chevrolet Nomad.

Styling highlights of the 1956 Chevrolet included stretching the hood metal out another four inches. This with angled headlight hoods and grille, gave the illusion of motion. Major styling changes involved the grille. Chevrolet introduced a remarkably clean looking grille in 1955.

While it was a hit with most enthusiasts, the company's buyer research apparently indicated that a more massive appearance was desired by a majority of the car buyers. Although the lattice work effect remains, the grille was widened and parking lights enlarged. The plane of the hood was flattened and extended forward. This along with higher, straighter front and rear fenders lines gave the illusion of greater length on the 1956 Chevy Bel Air.
